Что-то не могу я понять, что точно имелось в виду в следующем предложении (из гарантийных обязательств).

"MarathonNorco Aerospace, Inc. warrants the RF80-K (Ce) Aircraft Battery Charger / Analyzer to the extent of the parts necessary to correct any defect in workmanship or materials which may develop under proper and normal use for a period of one (1) year from date of receipt of the equipment by the customer, but not to exceed eighteen (18) months from the date of shipment from MarathonNorco."

Интересует фрагмент "but not to exceed eighteen (18) months from the date of shipment from MarathonNorco".

Гарантийный срок (1 год) истекает не позднее 18 месяцев после отгрузки с завода? Или он начинается не позднее 18 месяцев?

Склоняюсь к первому варианту, но хочется взять "помощь зала".

Естественно, первое. Ведь "not to exceed eighteen (18) months from the date of shipment from MarathonNorco" относится к "a period" (гарантийному), а не ко времени до его начала.
