After controlling it, this player may pass the ball a short distance back or sideways to a supporting attacker, a move called "laying off". Laying off helps bring other players into the attack.This attacker has waited for support. He's laid off the ball into the middle zone for a midfielder to have a shot. "Laying the ball off" means playing the ball to another player when you don't have much time to play it yourself.
