I think that the first option is the best, but I loathe technical jargon because all that stuff should really be much simpler and not require a special 'accounting dictionary' even in English. Your version sounds good too. In my mind, as long as the statement makes the same sense, it is irrelevant which words are used.

But, you see, when it comes to creative writing, I do not feel so intimidated and bound by formal rules.
Fortunately, not only me. I swear I have encountered "a weather" in writing (meaning, probably, "a weather condition").
Well, I realize I am standing on the quicksands of artistic license here, ready to go down.
