Staples and Kinko's

The only fax I had in my home wasn't working. I wasn't really comfortable using it, anyway. A lot of the documents I received and sent were intended to be secret, and at that time I didn't have a secure phone line. I'd used fax machines from different Staples and Kinko's.

Office supplies giant Staples, Inc. has beaten the competition, topping rivals Office Depot and OfficeMax to become the largest office supplies retailer. So the company management has set its sights on new competition: Kinko’s.

During a recent investor conference, president of U.S. stores Demos Paneros announced that Staples is going after the copy and print-center market dominated by FedEx Kinko’s and plans to open four small Copy & Print Shops in the Boston area in the next month as a first U.S. test. (Staples tested the concept under the Dossier brand in Montreal.)

Staples -- это сеть магазинов канцтоваров. В магазине Staples обычно есть сервисный уголок, где можно послать факс, распечатать документ, скопировать что-нибудь, заказать печать, копирование или брошюрование и т.п.

Kinko's (сейчас -- FedEx Office) -- это сеть сервисных точек, где можно копировать, печатать и т.п. в порядке самообслуживания, а можно попросить это сделать работников точки. Ну и всякий дополнительный сервис -- от паспортных фотографий до изготовления 40-футовых виниловых транспарантов, зазывающих народ на распродажу...
