Subject: и псу конурка и коту печурка I cannot find this in any of my dictionaries. Many thanks for any help. It must be an idiom.
|
as far as the meaning goes, I'd suggest: to make everyone happy \ so that everyone would be pleased \ to please everyone \ to satisfy both sides or parties can anyone come up with smth idiomatic in English? |
sounds like obsolete archaic proverb. конурка likely means "doghouse", печурка... ish.... stove. |
looks like I have misunderstood the concept! google says: псу ДОЛЖНА быть конурка, коту – печурка, then there's a different meaning of everything being in clover or being well provided for... |
and yet another way of reading this saying: И псу конурка, и коту печурка (Говорится по поводу прихода какой-то удачи, успеха в деле, в ситуации, когда дела налаживается. Или как пожелание - ""Будет и псу конурка, и коту печурка" (сравн. детский стишок: "Будут вам и белка, будет и свисток") so I guess, any translation would hinge on the situation when the saying is used (personally I have never heard this before, has anyone?) |
