Metropolitan Statistical Areas USA

Снова вопрос к американистам.
В статистике США есть такое понятие Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Под Metropolitan имеется в виду определение, относящееся к аггломерации городов, напр. к аггломерации Нью Йорк - Филадельфия.
Получается "Аггломерационный статистический район".
М.б. кто-нибудь знает более удачный термин?

While thinking of a Russian translation bear in mind that it is the Federal government that defines such areas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_statistical_area) and there may not be an equivalent Russian term if the Russian government does not have a similar practice.
