Контекст - 1000w 48 volt immersion heater. This can be used in a water heating application in preference to dumping any excess energy from the battery into the air with a standard dumpload.

По поводу Вашего вопроса: "dumpload" в данном случае - устройство рассеивания излишков энергии в окружающую среду. А вот ЧТО используется в качестве такового - Вам судить. Оригинал-то текста у Вас...

Of course I would give my version of the word, if it was a more common one, and I knew nothing about dumploads at that moment :)
You know, technical terms - you either know the word for it, or you don't :) No synonyms existing!
