a prepaid card |
More context would be helpful. I have a transponder, not a card, mounted on the windshield of my car so that I can go through the express lanes of toll roads. There is no attendant in these lanes. My transponder is interrogated, identified, and the appropriate (so I hope!) amount is deducted from my account balance |
е. prepaid (scratch) cards. |

garyg, большое спасибо |
My transponder is also pre-paid (toll roads don't give credit!). I have to have enough money in my account (look up http://www.ezpass.com/static/info/howit.shtml to see how it works) before going through the toll booth. In short, similar principles and technology but somewhat different conditions of usage |
Debit cards in the UK have RFID chips and are controversial for that reason. Here usually just a PIN is required. I also have a phone card for making long-distance calls (usually for when I am travelling as I have other options at home: a) included in my telephone service and b) Skype ;-) It, too, is pre-paid. I get the impression that Russian express payment cards function like debit cards. Does anyone know how they are different? |
To garyg Your impression is right. Most of our express payment cards function like debit cards. If this issue is of interest to you, you can find a lot of information about the Russian card market and cashless payment technologies at http://www.plusworld.ru (in Russian and English) |
I say, are you THE GaryG? From ProZ? What a damn pleasant surprise! Nice to see you around here ;)) |
