translation normally implies a use of (at least) two languages.... if you want to replace "top golfer" with "professional golfer" in this text it has nothing to do with translation. If, however, you are translating it and have some reasons to believe that the author meant to say "professional golfer" instead of "top golfer", then you may have reasonable grounds for rendering it as "профессиональный гольфист" in your translation
