Кста, Gulag несомненно знаком на Западе, имеет очень интересное значение: parents' Gulag - когда родители наказывают ребенка домашним арестом)))))

Thanks you all. It seems "concentration camps", "Stalin's camps", "Gulag" could all work because the sentence before this, which I don't really understand, is: "если по-серьезному, то пока по всей стране растут памятники Сталину, лояльность Европы нам не грозит."

Helen, "ne grozit" is used tongue-in-cheeck here.
What she means is that, on a serious note, while monuments to Stalin continue to be erected across Russia in ever-growing numbers, "we shouldn't worry", i.e. Europe will never be loyal to us = will always be wary, will always be looking at us w/suspicion, misgivings, will be frowning at us, looking askance at us.. you name it.

(And BOY, is she damn right!! :-)))
