Just as market participants do not perfectly balance the amount of gas they supply into the market, and the amount of gas that is consumed by them and their customers, the total of all gas supplied and gas injected does not normally match each time a schedule is run.
The VENCorp linepack account is a market settlement account that conceptually pays for this imbalance that occurs between the total of all gas supplied and consumed on each gas day. The linepack account also
- purchases gas to supply VENCorp demand overrides;
- trades linepack between schedules and between gas days
- contains the unaccounted for gas (UAFG) costs of the market, including measurement uncertainty.
This account is not associated with any individual market participant, and effectively accounts for any non-zero net settlement credits and debits from deviation and imbalance payments over each gas day resulting in the settlement payments summing to zero over a billing period.
