Improved balance of fatty acids' intake through vegetable oils

Fats are essential to human body, providing energy, carrying vitamins and essential fatty acids. More than 90 % of fats in the diet are triglycerides, i.e. including 3 fatty acids with different length and degree of saturation of their chain. Fatty acids are named based on their chemical structure: a) saturates , b) monounsaturates or omega-9 and c) polyunsaturates or omega-3 and omega-6

Monounsaturates and polyunsaturates have positive health effects and lower cardiovascular risk.

Blending oils to contribute to a balanced fat intake
To contribute to a more balanced omega-3 fatty acid intake, vegetable oils can be blend, e.g. sunflower oil with linseed or rapeseed oils. Only one table spoon (10g) of a blend of sunflower oil (90 %) and linseed oil (10 %) brings 25 % of the daily recommended intake for omega-3.
