Subject: примитивный до безобразия Помогите, пожалуйста, перевести предложения: "Может быть когда-то он (спектакль) и поражал воображаение, но сейчас порядком устарел. К тому же, сюжет примитивный до безобразия."

totally primitive |
very primitive of course |
Здесь нужно красиво закрутить - ведь totally and very - это не передает нашего русского возмущения. Поэтому предлагаю написать сюжет gives/brings a whole new meaning to the word 'primitive'. |
я не согласен со значением русского слова. "до безобразия" уже стало банальным синонимом слова "очень" и никакой эмоциональной подоплёки уже не чувствуется. Моё имхо чиста. |
utterly primitive |
couldn't be more primitive |
You could say "shamefully primitive" |
Option: Perhaps this play did stir the imagination at one time, but now it has become rather dated. Furthermore, the plot is painfully primitive. |
I like Kath's "painfully primitive" better. I think it catches the Russian meaning best. I retract my previous suggestion. :))) |
dreadfully? |
kath made a perfect suggestion, the perfect, perhaps. not that this has ever stopped me :-) the play, although a daring piece in its glory days, is now inexorably passé. to top it all off, the story line is monsterously/freakishly primitive. my version is more colloquial than kath's. but i do believe mine would not look out of place in any broadway play review. |
2talgat - touche! :) i like your version and agree that it is most fitting in most review sections. and it isn't colloquial. it's passionate. |
