Subject: аппетит приходит во время еды Продолжаю долбить статью про компанию, которая хочет купить землю у города. Теперь появилось предложение (см. сабж), которое сбило меня с толку. Говорится о том, что власти города кроме рекультивации участка захотели еще, чтобы компания понастроила им кучу разных полезных зданий, типа магазинов, концертного зала, и т.д.Толпа, выручайте! Мультитрановские варианты мне не очень нравятся... |

| well, sh2, state-of-the-art does have that hyperbolic tinge to it in that it implies that the facility is equipped with cutting-edge equipment, but here is a but. where russians would say sovremennaya, americans would use state of the art. bear the mind the difference in expectations of what each of those terms should be in the two languages. a state of the art hospital in america would be science fiction in russia, while a modern russian hospital would be a throwback to the lbj time for americans, or even earlier. so, if the distinction between just modern (which would cut it here, btw) and cutting edge is not important, state of the art should do. just be mindful of what i've said. |

| state of the art in russian would be передовая, rather than современная. so, if the distinction is inconsequential, use it. but it wouldn't be my first choice. |
| Мне кажется, что state-of-the-art относится обычно к оборудованию, а не к объектам в целом. То есть, можно сказать the clinic with state-of-the-art equipment/apparatus. А для клиники в целом можно что-нибудь типа up-to-date. Хотя, как верно заметил talgat, для России, быть может, это сильновато, и сойдет просто modern. |
| entrusta, state of the art applies to facilities, of course meaning that their equipment is such. so, it is more than ok to say, a state of the art lab, or a state of the art research center. |

| Просто в догонку. Я как-то перводила рекламный текст про клинику, и его потом правил американец, так вот он все мои most recent и modern переправил на state-of-the-art. Так в итоге и напечатали |
