не по душе

Уважаемые акулы словарных статей, подскажите хороший вариант перевода фразы "такой вариант пришелся им не по душе".

О контексте: статья рассказывающая о том, как одна компания покупала земельный участок, но городские власти отказали, потому что посчитали его слишком ценным, и вместо этого предложили другой, естественно, похуже. НО такой вариант им (представителям компании) пришелся не по душе.

I would not use the word "variant." Dictionary.com defines variant as "[S]omething that differs in form only slightly from something else, as a different spelling or pronunciation of the same word." So, when you are talking about variants, by definition, you are talking about things that are very similar, differing only slightly one from another.

In most cases, when you say "вариант" in Russian, you would translate it as "option" or "choice" in English.
