Спасибо большое |
To 15 коп: Your suggestions are grammatically correct as well, but I wouldn't be so quick with глаголы в Present Indefinite. Watch any movie, set in a court room, and you will hear expressions like "Your Honor, prosecution rests," or "My client pleads 'Not Guilty'". Both of these statements refer to something a party intends to do, and, thus, the "would like" construct is, of course, appropriate here. However, with all respect, I wouldn't go as far as saying that these sentences "не покатят" without it. More generally, the Present Indefinite is often used to convey imminent action or intent. A TV anchor may say, "And now we turn our attention to Florida, where…." |
To ms801 I see your point, and you are right – “не покатят” was uncalled for. I owe you an apology and an explanation. My understanding was that a motion in a courtroom setting should sound more like a request. I guess I wouldn’t have any problem with Present Indefinite in …prosecution moves to drop… But come to think of it, I agree with you on all counts. My bad. |
to 15 коп: No apology needed, really. I probably learn more from other people’s critique of my suggestions than other people learn from my suggestions. And your thinking totally makes sense. |
