заметить пропажу

придя на работу, мы заметили, что нет обшивочных листов, которые остались после восстановления обшивки.
Два дня мы пытались найти пропажу, но так и не удалось.

Подскажите, как в этом случае писать "Заметили, что нет" и потом связать это с "пытались найти пропажу"

или лучше we missed ? we observed that the sheets are missing?
а потом During the next two days we were trying to find the missed sheets? the lost sheets? the stolen?
