не выдумывайте. Есть устоявшийся перевод заверительных нотариальных подписей. Есть сомнения - задайте поиском по форуму.

а если явившийся лично с нотариусом не знаком - то все, безнадежно?

The notary must be certain that the person who appears is in fact the person whose signature is on the document, either by:
(i) personally knowing the signer,
(ii) by the sworn identification of the signer by a person known to the notary, or
(iii) by presentation by the signer of satisfactory identification such as a photo-bearing driver’s license, military identification card, or passport.

Мне встречалось в заверении так:

The person named herein was identified to me to my satisfaction.
The signer was positively identified by the notary.
