A practice manager runs the business side of a health centre where family doctors (known as general practitioners or GPs) see patients. A manager may serve a single practice or look after several smaller surgeries.

While the GPs focus on patient care, the practice manager is responsible for:

leading the team of administrative staff
managing the appointments system
ensuring that accurate medical records are kept
managing the finances and taking steps to ensure the practice stays within budget
future planning for new and extended services
ensuring that the right supplies of drugs and equipment are always available
overseeing the computer systems
dealing with patient complaints
all the other day-to-day aspects of the service, such as cleaning and security.

Practice managers usually work normal office hours, though they may need to work extra hours at particularly busy times. Managers are usually based within a GP surgery or health centre, but they may also travel to meet other local health groups and organisations.

Salaries for GP practice managers may range from around £15,000 to over £50,000 a year.
Успеха!
