Academic research of e-collaboration is a relatively new research area. It has been driven both by technological advances of recent decades and business challenges of the global economy. This paper showed the importance of e-collaboration for the enterprise in the current context, when fierce competition and demand for customised products and services puts pressure on the existing business practices. E-collaboration has been strongly linked as a tool to better level of collaboration between all parts of the supply chain, allowing to harness new technology for benefit of global operations. The existing research shows that while e-collaboration benefits many performance indicators, just like most information technologies the link between it and the bottom line is not very strong. Therefore, it would be of great interest to establish whether there are any mediators between e-collaboration and financial performance of enterprise that can establish what influence it has on financial and strategic position of a firm. One of the possible ways to do this would be utilising Structural Equation Modelling approach to the enterprise collaboration dynamics. It is evident from the research performed that e-collaboration will keep producing innovations that will offer new opportunities, as well as new risks, and therefore further academic research in this areas will be of great help to enable enterprises perform better.
