2.1 Order Processing

Customer and order detail data are received via a Web front-end and then sent to the host system. The host system data is later transferred to the GlobalTrak PC Server. Details ofupcoming orders are seen on the PC. They are sorted by delivery timeslots and postcode.This allows orders to be grouped and processed together.

Load planning only occurs on the PC. It allows customer orders to be manually scheduled by delivery timeslots and / or postcodes to delivery vehicle loads. At the end of the Load Creation process, personnel can use their local knowledge to override the deliverysequence. The sequence information is used after order picking is completed, to produce carrier labels and a delivery report detailing the drop sequence for each order in a load.

Once orders are assigned to a vehicle load they are released for “Picking”. This involvesgathering the stock required to fulfil the order. The order details are collected on to a handheld and taken to the stock locations indicated on the handheld screen. If found the barcodes of the items matching the order are scanned. GlobalTrak e:Fulfilment is based on the idea of a constant supply of stock. If ordered items are found to be out of stock it isassumed that the stock will be quickly replenished.

For example in a high stock turnover environment like a supermarket there will be daily orweekly stock deliveries scheduled. If the out of stock item is likely to be delivered before the order due date then the order remains incomplete. To indicate that an item was not found and that the order is to be re-picked in a later picking cycle, the “Nil Pick” option is used. This sets the quantity selected to zero and allows the picker to continue fulfilling the rest ofthe order. Alternatively there is an option to substitute out of stock items with other items.
