If we are talking about computers and modems versus networks,

глобальной сети по протоколу TCP\IP.

is it better to say here WAN network or global network?

and what do I do about this по протоколу TCP\IP?
Not being a techie I am not sure, but it is part of a "on-line" banking agreement.

Подозреваю, что под "глобальной сетью" имеется ввиду Интернет.

Alex Nord - www is only a part (one protocol) inside the tcp/ip protocol suite

Duff - WAN is a more common term
