"key study" и "endpoint"

Добрый день! Помогите, пожалуйста, разобраться. Перевожу следующий текст и не могу сообразить, как перевести эти два слова в данном контексте.
Determination of the key study or key studies
A key study is the study that has been identified as the most suitable to describe an endpoint from the perspective of quality, completeness and representativity of data3. When several results are available for a given endpoint there can be several key studies. For substances with more than one study available for an endpoint, the study or studies giving rise to the highest concern, taking into account quality, adequacy (reliability and relevance) and a weight of evidence approach should normally be used as the key study or studies for the assessment of the substance. In case another study is used as key study this should be fully justified in the technical dossier for the study being used as well as for all studies demonstrating a higher concern.

похоже на считывания и их описание, а могут быть точки отбора, по которым задается база (end point), но сугубо имхо.

по поводу "key study" - исходя из описания похоже, что это некий синоним или аналог термина "pivotal study", поэтому предлагаю вариант "опорное исследование"

здесь не может быть исследований, это описание считываний и анализа определения качественных свойств раствора, ну, минимум, на первый взгляд, хотя все бывает.
