Subject: парад советских времен
my question is not about really about grammar but culture. I have to prepare a comment of this article : http://www.inosmi.ru/stories/07/08/22/3515/239046.html
the thing is, i dont really see why the journalist talks about it now, reading the article i thought he was talking about a ceremony which is going to take place on the 7th of november. And as im not really "up to date" concerning the news in Russia, i thought maybe someone can explain to me?
thx a lot

Just so you get an idea of what a Soviet military parade used to look like.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk1wj2ryS0E

The reporter talks about a Russian MoD announcement that a similar parade will be held on V-Day, 9 May this year (it will be the first parade of this kind in Russia, as the Russian Federation became an independent country in December 1991, with the dissolution of the USSR).

The last Soviet military parade took place on 7 November 1990, as mentioned in the articles. Marching troops, combat vehicles, fighter planes and other symbols of might and glory - show of strength, I suppose.

The article isn't just about the parade, you know.
