Из Ильфа и Петрова - в комнату вошел мальчик, путаясь в соплях. |
2 интересные строчки по сабжу, были найдены здесь: http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/programs/19970412/97_0412REVERE.htm "Listen, my children, and blow your schnozz, Listen, my children, and wipe off your snot," |
i guess in russian that means, something like take heart, stop crying, etc etc. so, why not say, stop crying, or chin up, or something like that. i dont think saying, blow ur nose, or wipe away the snot would say "stop crying, dont dispear" to english speakers. of course, i know i m going out on a limb here, openning msyelf up for attack, but hey, i have never been one to shy away from a good fight :))))) |
Talgat, where is your trademarked signature? |
stay cool |

Cheer up! Keep your pecker up! |
kondorsky, quite observant of u, 8))))) i was in a hurry, so i guess i just forgot, but i knew somebody'd notice and poke me with that. translucid mashroom, first off, what a psychodelic handle, congrats, buddy. seconly, i dont think urtri nos means to thumb one's nose at somebody, at least not in russian, although i might be wrong on this point, but if i m, i m sure i dont think there will be a shortage of volunteers to correct me. tal' |

2 tal' - you're quite a prankster, right? pleased to meet you, bro. |
Thanks, Talgat for the appreciation. I guess you are a native English speaker, therefore, it is praiseworthy that you know the meaning of this Russian idiom. I fully agree with you: утри сопли (не путать с утереть кому-либо нос) means take heart and chin up. |
