Вот пример из Tsar and People: Studies in Russian Myths:

Until 1905 the Russian people certainly did believe that their "Tsar'-batiushka" (a term of endearment meaning "dear father tsar")

The prenatal period is seen as life within the Temple of God. Life in the Womb of the Church is a very significant image. The traditional Russian Christian world is that of one family: with God as Father and Theotokos as Mother in Heaven, with Tsar (Царь батюшка) as Father and Tsaritsa (Царица матушка) as Mother on Earth, with Priest as batushka and Priest’s wife as matushka. All the Russians, as members of the Church, are first and foremost children, who live within the womb of the Church and the country. “Batushka” and “matushka” are very tender words which speak of intimate relationships between children and parents. The life of the country and that of the family in this context is supposed to be the continuation and realisation of the religious worldview. God, Tsar, Priest, and Father; Mother of God, Tsaritsa, Priest’s wife, and mother, - all of them are supposed to be directed by God, this is how the ideal family pattern of the Russian Christian Universe unites Heaven and Earth.
