Subject: value retailer Пожалуйста, помогите перевести.value retailer Выражение встречается в следующем контексте: ...to a discounter (they prefer to call themselves value retailers) at maybe Заранее спасибо |
As far as jeans are concerned this means that the consumer, who traditionally was loyal to Levi, Lee or Wrangler at US$40 in the USA and $60 in the UK, has moved either up or down: ○ to a fashion brand or a designer label, at maybe twice the price of the mass market brand; ○ to a discounter (they prefer to call themselves value retailers) at maybe half the price of the mass market brand. |
"value" is just a self-conscious, la-di-da way of saying " (dirt) CHEAP" :-) |
Большие магазины-продавцы дисконтированной продукции/товаров по пониженным (умеренным) ценам. "discounter", "value retailer" are just marketing terms for stores like big supermarkets or grocery stores that sell tons of everything, have huge inventories/turnovers and are thus able to sell much cheaper than traditional smaller (sometimes called "mom and pop") stores. In the US, examples incude Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Giant, Safeway, etc. Naturally, they are hated by small shopkeepers because the latter can't compete with these monsters in price and convenience of "one-stop shopping" and often have to fold. By the way, the quality of goods is fine - no worse than for the same goods in any other store, but the price is usually much lower. |
Correction to my own above: Classic value retailers are probably only Walmart, Kmart, Target. The rest are just big stores. |
А как же приснопамятный Сикокус в Нью-Джерси (пол-НЙорка там паслось)? :-) |
