TOOTH SPACING
Correct tooth spacing is a critical factor in steel tooth design. Soft formation bits (i.e. MX-1) require wide tooth spacing to produce large cuttings for fast drilling and to aid cuttings removal. Medium formation bits (i.e. MX-3) require more teeth with less projection to drill harder formations. Therefore, they usually require more weight on bit (WOB) to drill these formations.
