Может быть 'Emergency fire prevention kit' or something like that. 'Board with fire prevention means' звучит некрасиво на английском имхо.

На самом деле, действительно, не самый простой вопрос. Я даже совместно с шефом-американцем так и не смог выяснить, как это называется по-английски (to Semizvetik: именно найти правильное соответствие, а не слепить корявый подстрочный перевод на русском английском). Так американцы сказали бы fire point или fire station (не путать с пожарным депо), fire emergency stand (?), wall mounted board with fire fighting equipment (?)

fire-alarm panel maybe? context maybe?

fire station. 100%

That is already the problem of whoever is doing the back translation. Our asker's job is to write the translation as accurately as possible (and that really is the task of any translator) for the audience at hand and frankly, just becasue that is his job. His job is not to sit around worrying about whether or not some other buy can retranslate it back to Russian 10 years from now. That's not his problem.

Maybe I didnt get the humor in what you said, who knows

right and it is also called a fire house by a good number of people.

maybe the asker should go for this variant - the building's fire station or one of the building's fire stations?

but in any case, it is not the problem of the asker to worry about what the poor bastard ten years from now is going to say in his (most likely) pathetic re-translation. Accuracy is key to quality.

it won't be 10 years from now, it may be tomorrow, e.g. when a design project is reviewed by both national and international experts, and they exchange comments, this may lead to gross misunderstanding. whaddabout?

 Nina79

link 10.07.2007 10:20
Aiduza,
I suggested the whaddabout: one of the building's fire stations

 Aiduza

I'd suggest smth like 'basic fire-fighting equipment wall box' or '...board'.

 Nina79

fire-fighting equipment wall box/board? you have to be kidding....
I respect you as a translator and all that, but this is just not do-able. It's actually absurd in my opinion and not English. Sorry for the harsh criticism but it really sounds like Chinese-English

oh i am soooo scared of google images... ooooo... the horror. and you didnt type the right phrase anyhow.
just come off it.
your wall box doesnt cut it

 Nina79

and maybe it is just an extinguisher box? http://www.fireprotectiononline.co.uk/

but if this is not what the asker is looking at , then no.

or heck, it could be the Fire Prevention Station which is something I was told by a guy at home who works in an office. That's what they call it.

Sweetening Train :-)))

my vote goes for Fire Point

we are talking about oil here? I thought this was something which was supposed to be in a building somewhere. Look, all I am saying is that Aiduza's variant just sounds TOO nuts and too foreign to me. i gave my versions.
and why do you think this is connected to neft? what am i missing?

personally i always liked Commingling

the guys-answerers work in oil industry ;-) Aiduza and Codeater. I mean technical language sounds weird-ish sometimes :-))

and how am i to know that they work in the oil industry? i am not a close personal friend nor have i done a survey of everyone's industry around here :)))
and i KNOW techy is weird but i assumed this was related to not-so-techy-tech :)

I can also suggest 'fire post'.
