Кто-нибудь знает что это за праздник, с чем связан, откуда пришел?
Может быть, это связано с традициями какой-то страны?

Это праздник Богоявления, его ещё называют праздником Трёх царей или Трёх волхвов. По Преданию три царя: Каспар, Мельхиор и Вальтазар пришли в Вифлеем с Востока. Они принесли Младенцу Иисусу дары: золото, ладан и смирну. Эти мудрецы стали первыми язычниками, которые поклонились Иисусу Христу и признали его Предвечным Богом и своим Царём. Так Иисус явил Себя Спасителем не только израильского народа, но и всего человечества.

В память об этом событии 6 января в храмах священники освящают мел, которым верующие на дверях своих домов пишут: +К+М+В+2001 (первые латинские буквы имён трёх царей и наступивший год). Эта надпись становится знаком того, что для живущих в этом доме Христос является Царём

Замечательное эссе, я бы только оговорился, что "Богоявлением" этот праздник ( Трех Царей) называется у католиков.
В то время как у православных праздника Трех Царей имхо нет вообще, а праздником Богоявления, как известно, называется не встреча трех волхвов со Спасителем через несколько дней после Его Рождества (как у католиков, которые считают, что Бог явился в мир, когда Он был ЯВЛЕН волхвам - т.е. вскоре после Рождества Богочеловека - и именно ЭТО называется Эпифанией, т.е. "явлением звезды" - Epiphany ), а Крещение Господа нашего Иисуса Христа (19 января по новому летоисчислению).

Словари, включая Мтран, в этом смысле ошибаются и сильно путают переводчика, т.к. смешивают якобы в одном - на самом деле ДВА совершенно разных праздника, т.к не различают Эпифанию и Теофанию.

Православное Богоявление - будет Theophany , и оно, как я отметил, совпадает у нас с Крещением (для православных Бог явился в Триединстве в момент Крещения Спасителя, когда люди одновременно видели Его, выходящего из вод Иорданских, Святого Духа, сходившего на Него "в виде голубине", и слышали голос Бога-Отца "Сей есть Сын Мой возлюбленный".

Для католиков же Богоявление - Эпифания (почему - см. сыше).

Так что меня лично в Вашем замечательном посте наводит на сомнительные мысли пассаж про "6 января" и освящение мела.
Честно говоря, никогда не слышал про такое в православной традиции ( хотя, опять же, вполне могу и ошибаться) и тем более про ЛАТИНСКИЕ буквы К+М+В? Вы уверены, что православные пишут латиницей на своих дверях что-то?
Если же это Вы - не про православных, а напротив - про католиков, то да, наверное Вы правы.
Не просветите?
