Выражение встречается в следующем контексте: Он является студентом 3 курса экономического факультета нашего университета.

Still, the Lomonosov Moscow State University has incorrect language there, with all due respect... In English faculty is not факультет. It is actually a very common source of misunderstanding when used in this manner to describe department and/or school..

As a division of a university in the US it would be sometimes an equivalent to our кафедра. Not факультет!
The French may call it faculty still, and this is where the confusion started in the former Soviet system when they started to misuse the word faculty. They even would spell you name in your passport in French transliteration as oppose to English , - another major source of nowadays name misspellings!

Anyway, I guess, if this translation is done for Europe, you can get away with the faculty. In the US though, it will be considered a gross mistake.
