Made up of military and civilian personnel detached by member countries, under the authority of a director, helped by six deputy directors and a secretary, it provides assistance to the military committee. One of its missions is to supervise the proper enforcement of the committee's directives and decisions as well as to draft plans, to initiate studies and to advise on general trends regarding military issues. It is organized into several branches, namely intelligence, plans and doctrine, operations, logistics, signals and computer science, as well as standardization and interoperability of weapons.
