mil., logist. The lateral space occupied by an element measured from the extremity of one flank to the extremity of the other flank. 2. The direction of the enemy. 3. The line of contact of two opposing forces. 4. When a combat situation does not exist or is not assumed, the direction toward which the command is faced. FRA 5. A major operational/strategic formation of the armed forces usually established at the outset of a war to accomplish operational/strategic missions in a continental theatre of operations.
