radiological monitoring
mil., logist. The act of detecting the presence of radiation and the measurement thereof with radiation measuring instruments. (FRA); The determination of the degree of irradiation and radioactive contamination of personnel, weapons, equipment, the area, various sites and stores. A distinction is made between individual and collective monitoring. The latter is carried out within subunits, using direct-reading dosimeters issued to personnel or to separate subunits. Doses are recorded in subunits and headquarters and the totals entered on record cards. Dosimeters are issued to each serviceman for individual monitoring. The results are recorded in medical centres, starting with the battalion medical aid post. In subunits radioactive contamination is monitored by measuring the dose of gamma 201 radiation, and in laboratories mainly by reference to alpha and beta radiation. (UKR/NATO)
