archive. ordinary criminal (Archival government documents report mass banditry and robbery as a result of the mass famine of 1601-1603 at the beginning of the Time of Troubles. In modern historiography these riots are called the Khlopok's Uprising. At the same time, the archival documents do not indicate the political nature of the uprising – its participants are called "robbers" (ordinary criminals), not "thieves" (political criminals) because their goal was not to seize state power, control over certain cities and fortresses, but to get hold of means of living through crime, which became habitual in conditions of mass famine. Alex_Odeychuk)
