why not just stick the moniker "Ministry of the Interior Academy" on it and be done with it? if u want to draw analogies, the FBI, which is the closest thing to our MVD, has its own academy, and it is referred to in the popular parlance as either the FBI academy, or quantico, by the name of the town it is located at. tal |
The Academy of the RF Ministry of Domestic Affairs |
Ministry of the Interior |
Ministry of Interior, notwithstanding anything found in dictionaries, Есть прекрасные варианты в international English, типа Internal/Home/Domestic Affairs, а все эти потуги "to sound more English than the English" - от незнания нюансов, сорри, никого из присутствующих не имею в виду.
Ministry of Internal Affairs |
well, toll, from where i sit, calling it home affairs ministry would be plain stupid. that is just parrotesque, give or take. ministry of the interior is used worldwide now to denote entities similar to russian mvd, and nobody, but u, thinks it slavish mimickry. moi sounds right, ministry of home affairs doesn't. why create some kind of verbal frankensteins if there r cadent-sounding alternatives available? beats me. again, when we translate, or at least i, i dont' know about u, i translate for americans and canadians by trying to put the terms i use in an envelop accessable to them, given their cultural and historical heritage, and not to russian speakers who then try to sublimate their inferiority complexes by nitpicking. and i especially liked that nugget about not knowing all the details,or nuances; i take it u know more about the mvd than the mvd staff interpreters. :-) i guess it is time somebody brought u down a peg or two, and i guess this somebody will have to be me. well, not that i m going to relish in doing this chore, but a guy gotta do what a guy gotta do. |
and i m going to preempt some of that transference nitpicking by pointing out that of course, it is accessible, not accessable. sometimes i type too fast for my own good :-) |
nephew, so what u r saying is that right after high school kids can go on to study at the mvd academy? well, then it is no problem either, dont forget about west point, annapolis and colorado springs. those r also called academies, and they issue bachelor's degrees to their graduates. so, fret not, nephew, academy should do here. i can vouch for americans and canadians at least, maybe brits will find this strange, but i don't really think so. |
Если, конечно, задача в установлении истины, а не в стремлении опустить оппонента... 2) хотелось бы также уточнить - какая конкретно школа перевода рекомендует при переводе "for americans and canadians by trying to put the terms i use in an envelop accessable to them, given their cultural and historical heritage" использовать название конкретно существующей структуры для перевода названия столь же конкретной структуры, если функции этих двух структур не имеют ровным счетом ничего общего? |
toll, in kazakhstan, u r right, it is called ministry of the interior. urkaine, too, france too, germany too. bulgaria, lithuania, saudi arabia and on and on. go to ur beloved google, and see for urself if u dont believe me. i m not a slave to google like u to rely on it to know what is true and what is not. in ur own country it is moi, what other proof do u want? but don't worry, u will get to that point where u will just know it in ur gut what is right, too, toll. just hang in there, study hard, and it will come to u. u know, it was said once about charles I, king of england, that nothing in his life became him like leaving it. so, nothing in ur life will ever become u like shutting up when u cannot hold ur side of an argument. i m sorry if m being curt, but people who presume too much r my pet peeve. and please, write in english next time. i m having trouble understanding ur full of affectations russian. |
now, wisht to god that oke earl were around :) he must know it in his gut what IS right. most of the commonwealth, at least numerically, go happily with their mhas with no learned alien querying study hard, toll ;) hey v! |
bring it on, googler. learned alien querying? lol now, that sound pompous and contrived at the same time. wherever did u find this? google? lol i suggest u follow the advice i give to toll which u didn't have the noodle to refrain from ridiculiing. |
sounds. |
study hard, tal |
the same too, u, googler. could not even think of a piece of advice of ur own? so, i guess all those pseudo-brainiac literations that u so akwardly copy-pasted from google were copycat'ed too. now i have crakced ur mo. lol |
"In my own country" это называется таки "МВД", а не MoI... :-) And do write in English, tal', it's really perfect, I admire reading your posts :-) Remember, though, speaking English kills, in very much the same way as excessive peevishness does :-) 2Googler:
why i thought i suggested "ministry of home affairs" most of the commonwealth do with w/o asking ur leave. have it in my guts. rotten as they r, they keep me fed :) as 4 "with.... querying," just try & read it with "one" instead of "learned alien" |
toll, for christ's sake, go to the minsitere de l'interieur english web site, and see what it is called. translate mvd whichever way pleases u. i got peeved by the tone of ur post in which u seemed to suggest that ur version was not merely a suggestion, which u r implying now, but *the* one, *the* only way to translate it. of course, all those people who translated it from french, german, italian, ukrainian, arabic don't know squat about translating. which is what u seem to imply. as far as credeible links go, i dont think i can give u a direct quote from god at this point without ur dismissing it as anything but. PS get peeved and be peevsih r not the same thing. ergo ur excessive peevishness jibe missed the target. so, i repeat my advice, study hard. :-) and lastly, although my russian is not perfect, it is sufficient to tell when people r sandbagging. and u know what, my russian is light years ahead of ur english. so that ought to give me some measure of comfort, dontchya think? :-) i m done with this thread, it is strating to wear me out. i m not 18 anymore, alas :-) |
googler, ur choice of words is alien. don't go for tongue in cheek, lest u end up with a foot in the mouth. u just don't have it in ur to pool it off without sounding kinda translated. |
googler, ur choice of words is alien. don't go for tongue in cheek, lest u end up with a foot in the mouth. u just don't have it in ur to pull it off without sounding kinda translated. |
Getting peeved o'er things others "seem to imply" is exactly what them docs call "excessive peevishness", dontcha think, tal'? Don't let it become your post mortem verdict, man, stay happy with moi, do whatever you please,
thanx tal, i suspected so. gotta do something about it :) |
merci bien, Maitre. "and it is not even a full moon yet"(c) :-)) |
De rien, Cher Confrere. Le plaisir est a moi. |
first, to toll, to get peeved means to be annoyed by something. to be peevish means to be a habitual fretter. there is a huge difference, and if u cann't see it, then that speaks volumes about ur english (or lack thereof). "post mortem verdict", lol, i will have to post that on an on-line bloopers' site, lol. googler. is that kenyan or sri-lankan english u r speaking? i m just curious. V. u r right. when u r right, u r right. ce n'est pas ma raison d'etre de me meler, mais toll, lui, m'ennerve tant. maybe i jumped the gun, but je ne pense pas que toll aie ete respecteux, c'est pourquoi je me suis laisse emporter. tu as raison, il n'y a pas de quoi fuetez le chat. :-) |
If anyone is still interested in Earl's opinion.... :) He said that first he would try to find out what they call themselves. If there is no official English name, than you may call it whatever you like, his suggestion is the Ministry of Home Affairs (at least this way they call the corresponding ministries in SA and Namibia) |
Home Affairs, whoever may find it "plain stupid".
Очень много газеьных статей в интеhнете с выражением interference in US Internal Affairs, а также ссылок на New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs |
US Department of the Interior? Вот что на их сайте (А чем занимается МВД Вы и сами знаете): We take seriously our awesome responsibilities to the American public: The Department manages one of every five acres of land in the United States, providing opportunities for wilderness, wildlife protection, recreation, and resource development; We meet these responsibilities every day following the guide of what I call the 4 Cs: communication, consultation, cooperation, all in the service of conservation. We are committed to building partnerships to encourage conservation and preserve our natural and cultural resources; to bringing innovative approaches to solving land management and water disputes; and to developing energy, including renewable sources of energy, in the most environmentally protective manner. |
