Речь идет о первой стадии получения вакцины: A known number of ticks are ground into a fine paste in a sterilized mortar and pestle by adding sterilized sea sand or glass wool. Sufficient amount of medium RPMI-1640 supplemented with 3.6% bovine albumin powder and antibiotics are added to it. The paste is collected in a sterile culture tube. It is stirred well and centrifuged at 4C at 250g. Supernatant fluid, henceforth referred to as Ground-up Tick Supernate (GUTS) containing sporozoites of T. annulata is aliquoted depending upon the number of infected ticks to be taken as infective dose.
