side specific (also sidespecific, side specific...)

Слово встречается в следующем контексте:
The ulna nail is not side-specific so the same nail can be introduced into the both left and right ulna.
О чем речь, понятно: у стержня нет каких-то особенностей, позволяющих ввести его только в левую или только в правую локтевую кость. Можно вводить в любую.
А как бы поточнее перевести сам термин: side-specific ?

мне кажется, это не совсем то: на картинке штифт (он же стержень) не очень-то симметричен. и потом, имеется в виду, что он подходит как для левой, так и для правой локтевой кости пациента. А некоторые штифты можно вводить только либо в ту, либо в другую. Вот этот момент и надо определить. Not side-specific... Подожду авторитетного профессорского мнения :) - жалко пациентов...

дай контекст пошире, чтобы яснее было о чем речь (хотя бы из части про BTR nailing)
я тоже не сразу сообразила, о какой спецификации сторон там речь
хотя, судя по этому посту, мой вариант тебе не очень понравился ;)

BTU nailing
The different nail length changes only in the triangular part. At the natural widening of the medullary cavity the nail is angulated and widens, too. Anatomically the length of this widened part of the ulna is identical in all forearms. The holes for nail locking are in the same plane as the angulation. One of the holes directs into the coronoid process. The holes for locking are parallel, except the proximal, which is angulated and directed to the tip of the olecranon.
The ulna nail is not sidespecific so the same nail can be introduced into the both right and left ulna.

BTR nailing
The BTR intramedullary nail is anatomically shaped and fits the medullary canal according to the three-point-fixation principle, but increased to a five-point intramedullary fixation into the natural arcs of the medullary canal. The nail reduces the fragment of the radius after insertion anatomically and tenses the interosseus membrane. This is important for the physiologic range of pronosupination.
The nail tip is chamfered for easier insertion. The BTR nail is inserted from distal through the styloid process of the radius. The proximal end locks in the radia neck and head. It contours the arch of the radius. Distally it lays on the inside of the opposite corticalis. Therefore the nail is side-specific.

to sonnetic: твой вариант как раз имеет отношение к симметрии, подобию и т.п., мне кажется, это не отражает сути термина. Подождем, что скажут авторитетные источники :)

т.е. он не имеет билатеральных отличий.

симметрично - такое слово не подходит.

Переводить лучше как "универсален по форме ,и может применяться как при левосторонней, так и правостороенней локализации перелома" - что-то типа этого. Полдумай сама, как лучше сказать.
