Subject: A-end telecom.
Всем драсти!
Бэтмен с сопливым носом вернулся из теплых краев... :)

в определениях к провайдскому договору: "А-end" means the point of interconnection at which the access line is physically connected to the customes network... bla-bla-bla...

Точный перевод этого конца нужон...

imho
drop in здесь просто (физическое) подключение

я так понимаю, что B-end находится где-то на территории провайдера

Скорее всего, подключение.
Хотя и такой момент есть:
Tech Drop In Center.
What goes on in the drop in center depends on getting staffing and an ISP such as PTD.NET with local assess. We may want to consider staff training Thursday AM and being open for drop ins as people register on Thursday.
What are the times that a drop in center will be useful?
The service we are likely to get is listed as 56K modems. That often results in an actual connection at half that speed. This makes doing any classroom type presentations that are dependent on a connection difficult because of the slowness of the transmission. We found this to be true at several national conferences. The tech sessions that I attended at the Cafe in Baltimore did not depend on the connection. Jo Anne, do you have anything to add to that?
That is where the staffed drop in center comes in. There could be multiple informal demonstrations as well as discussions. There would not be a high dependence on an Internet connection. Also, having accounts would mean that NASW staff and others could telnet or get their e-mail
while at the conference.
Another important matter is location. Putting PC's out there unattended does not seem to be a good use of resources. They should be in a place that can be closed and locked when it is not staffed. Also it should be easy to find and drop in and hang. It should be where other tech workshops are held. A room off the exhibit hall would be ideal. But I'm not sure that such a room exists. I am thinking of sending an e-mail message to all of the schools and divisions requesting volunteers who can work in the drop in center. What do you think? They would be part of the Technology Group.
