raise down/ == это как ? был вырашен, воспитан

Выражение встречается в следующем контексте:
I was raised down the Canebrake by an old mountain mine,
And there ain't no hard hearted women make me walk that line!

Бессмертные 16 тонн :-)) честно говоря, о чем он там во второй строчке говорит, тоже слегка непонятно :-))) не хочет возвращаться обратно на шахту ???
