помогите пожалуйста перевести следующее предложение:
The capping or root area shall not be flush ground

Контекст такой:
The coupons for the macro examination shall be cut in Laboratory, as follows:
a. Size to be cut at laboratory (30 mm width x 125mm length x WT)
b. The capping or root area shall not be flush ground

Я предложения b вообще не понимаю. Могу только фантазировать: область нижнего (root?) и поперечного (capping?) разреза (??) не должна быть на одном уровне (заподлицо) с грунтом/основанием. А про что этот текст?

Это процедура ,называется SCOPE OF WORK FOR MACROGRAPHIC EXAMINATION

само испытание (разрушающий контроль сварного шва, макротест) не описывается, больше похоже на контракт между лабораторией и заказчиокм, даю более объемный контекст:

1. Preparation of the coupons for the test performance.
2. Performance of the macro examination test.
Note: the size of the Coupon and method of macro examination shall be as per EN1321.
3. After completion of the testing, photographic replica representation for side A and B, the Testing report and the specimens shall be returned to Contractor.
4. The coupons for the macro examination shall be cut in Laboratory, as follows:
a. Size to be cut at laboratory (30 mm width x 125mm length x WT)
b. The capping or root area shall not be flush ground.
5. The final sizing of the coupons shall be carried out at the Supplier of Macro graphic examination.
6. The samples shall be hard stamped for the identification of the welders before the delivery to the Laboratory for the micrographic examination.
7. The Supplier shall clearly write/ specify in the testing reports the stamp mark’s and the welder’s I.D numbers of each sample.

Возможно облицовочный и корневой швы не должны срезаться?

Root это не корневой шов, а "корень шва" (с) Мультитран
Это то, что при сварке выступают с обратной стороны, вероятно (тут у меня нет доказательств) capping это то, что образуется на лицевой стороне при сварке.

Ну то есть Вы практически правы (если следовать этой логике), только можно сказать "корень и лицевая поверхность шва не должны срезаться"

Если Вам будет интересно, как мне объяснили flush grinding тоже самое что и flat grinding т.е. плоское шлифование.

Иными словами, выпуклость сварного шва с обеих сторон (root - корень, cap - лицевая поверхность) должна зачищаться заподлицо (flush) с основным металлом шлифовальным инструментом (grinding)
