Subject: 10-seconds-long или 10 second-long?
Привет всем!
Решил перепроверить себя. Как правильно написать "десятисекундная задержка"? Мне кажется, второй вариант вернее?

Если это предикатив, т.е. something is 10 seconds long, то без дефиса, если же аттрибутив, например a 10 seconds-long interrupt, то с ним.

Аттрибутив - сигнал запуска длительностью 10 сек (перевожу a 10 sec-long signal). То есть, между 10 и seconds дефис не ставится?

Между 10 и секондс не ставится.

Спасибо, Игорь. Это же относится и к years, по аналогии...

Подождите, если атрибутивная конструкция, "s" не нужно: А ten-SECOND-long signal. Насчет правильности дефисов не уверен...

Дефисы нужны везде: A 25-second-long delay, a 5-m-thick layer, a 1-liter-bottle, etc.

Hyphenation of Unit Modifiers
Hyphenate unit modifiers in order to avoid ambiguity. Unit modifiers are two or more words used as an adjective. They may consist of any of the following:
1. а noun and an adjective
time-dependent reaction radiation-sensitive compound
2. an adjective and an adverb
above-average results still-unproven technique
3. two nouns, where one noun modifies the other

4. а noun and а verb or а present or past participle

Note: If you can insert and between the modifiers and the construction makes sense, they do not form а unit modifier and should be joined by an en dash.
Hyphenate unit modifiers used as predicate adjectives. In general, only unit modifiers that consist of nouns and adjectives can be used as predicate adjectives.
