| User: 'decimated' is probably OK in this case. It literally means 'to destroy 90% of (sth)' or 'to kill 9 out of every 10 people', of course, but a lot of people -- inc sports commentators -- use it loosely/figuratively to mean either 'to do huge damage to (sth)' or 'to destroy (sth) completely'. |

One should never want to use 'Real' instead of 'Real Sociedad" because 1) this is the authentic club's name and, moreover, 2) there are two 'Reals' in La Liga, and 'Real' is always considered to be refering to 'Real' (Madrid) with context playing almost no role in resolving this ambiguity.) |

Да уберите Вы "амбиции" из перевода, Аскер!(Поразительно, что и Вильям наш.. Джон то есть, тоже попался на эту удочку: переводить слова, а не смысл)) Используйте лучше такие слова как 'whitewash', 'rout' или даже 'eviscerate'. Они прекрасно передают смысл исходника и перевод будет звучать/читаться гораздо естественнее, Имхо. |

Yes, John, it certainly does) However, there's a third possibility: the author could have just been inebriated in his own verbosity, which, I think, is the case here (hence my suggestion to get rid of the "flowers" and keep the translation simple and succinct). I could be wrong, though. |
