Перевожу статью, в которой есть такое предложение

просто emerge подойдет?

Всё зависит т контекста, а не от количества раз упоминания в гугле. Если она просто появилась, то "appeared", а если появилась и превратилась в могучую силищу, сокрушая устои, то лучше "emerged"

emerged привносит ощущение [возможности] некоего имевшего место процесса [во времени]... appeared в этом смысле более нейтрально... Но не настаиваю...

'appeared on the world stage' is a common expression -- but it's usually used with countries (eg China) and large international organisations (eg ISIS) and internationally well-known people (eg Nelson Mandela). Is it a very large/internationally well-known sect?

The literal translations 'emerged on the historical stage' / 'emerged on the stage of history' don't sound very English, so you'll probably have to paraphrase it and use an existing English set expression such as ....

* '(historically), [the sect] (first) came to prominence as the result of (a/the) political crisis'

or just use your 'emerged', which will be clearly understood:

* '(historically), [the sect] (first) emerged as the result of (a/the) political crisis'.
