Не очень понятно, грамматику какого варианта просите прокомментировать: первого-длинного или второго-короткого. В первом сомнения вызывает Past Continuous (was approaching) и хочется заменить hatred of на hatred for.
Во втором всё отлично, на мой взгляд.
