Subject: Объем текста gen.
Народ, вроде, такое простое, но что-то не могу разобраться. Как перевести простяцкую фразу "Объем текста"? Как обычно её переводят. Volume - отстой, size - тоже, вроде. Подскажите, плиз. В предложении: Объем текста составляет 3000 сбп.

а что такое "сбп"? O_O

Басурмане часто пишут Word count, character count is [NUMBER]

сбп = похоже "символов без пробелов".

Точно, спасибо! Я такое тоже встречал часто. Забыл совсем. Да, символов без пробелов.

Actually 'volume' sounds perfectly fine.
The volume of the text is 3000 characters without spaces.

When I enter "volume of the text" into Google some of the results look like this:

"The appearance of the seventeenth and last volume of the text of the French Encyclopaedia in 1765 was a notable and symbolic event in the development of this ..."

I think you may also safely say 'The text is...'
Do you think 'The length of the text' might also be ok?

You are right, 'volume' has multiple meanings.

'The length of the text' is perfectly fine too.

European customers won't appreciate the precision I'm giving you. They have no clue whatsoever about what sounds right or wrong in English.

One piece of advice:
Just use American or British websites when translating and your translation will be okay. It is also much safer to use good dictionaries such as www.m-w.com rather than Ru-En dictionaries. In other words don't draw too much on Russian sources when translating into English.

ОФФ: Truth be told, all (I mean ALL) Ru-En dictionaries are no good at all while En-Ru ones are just fine. There is one exception here -- biological dictionaries are fine as long as they rely on binomial nomenclature and international codes.

Why did you choose to use English when communicating on the forum?

предположительно это тот самый американец, который ещё неделю назад жил в Москве, а до того знал Ru10.5 En9.5

Уважаемые Коллеги!
Обратите внимание на чудный информационный вброс in-between the lines from The Morrigan:)

///I think you may also safely say 'The text is...' ///

И всякие волюмы в мусорку, если аскер хочет, чтобы предложение звучало на английском, а не руглинском.
