HerMn exhibits targeted toxicity to HER2+/HER3+ but not HER2-/HER3- tumor cells in culture while Mn-corrole has no effect on cell survival. The data is shown in FIG. 14, where each cell line received the indicated concentration of HerMn or S2Mn and was assessed for survival 24 hours later via crystal violet (CV) stain. N=3 per concentrate, from 3 separate experiments. It has been shown that the targeting Hgand of HerPBKlO induces rapid endocytosis after receptor binding. As sulfonated corroles are unable to breach the endosomal membrane on their own, the penton base moiety of HerPBKlO enables effective membrane disruption after endocytic uptake, and entry into the cytoplasm.
