ИМО - in my opinion, ИМХО - in my humble/honorable opinion |

AnnaB they probably use IMO more now becasue the opinions are less humble? :) and what is a humble opinion? to me it means the person is unsure of themselves a bit.... but thats just how i see the world. |
no, it means that the person respects the other persons involved in the conversation, and does not want to hurt their feelings. smth like "with all due respect". |
IMHO, конечно. :) |

aiduza i know what it supposed to mean, but humble opinions are usually less sure of themselves... when someone just knows, they are usually more assertive and will say "nope, this is just how it is. humbleness not needed here" but this is all me and my view of the world...... and in all seriousness i completely agree with you on the meaning |

tanyusha are you trying to tell me that russians have done it again? they have found the shorter way of saying something again? (seems to me russians love to make words shorter) or are they just being lazy like americans and thats why they need a shorter way to say it? :) (please no one take this seriously) |
gogolesque Yes! |

gogolesque, Russian laziness is creative sometimes. Here is a short story about it: as you might know, usual pens (ball pens) do not work out of space b/c of lack of gravitation, so NASA spent more then a year in time and over one million dollars in money terms for R&D in order to create the special pen, which would work in out-of-space enviroment. Russians took pencils there. |

justboris i am aware of it and this is why i love russians and think they are some of the world's greatest problem solvers! i did not say RUSSIANS are lazy by the way. i said they like to simplify things. i said AMERICANS are lazy. for me, there is a HUGE difference between simplifying and being lazy. :) |
gogolesque - I would say, we simplify things because of being a bit lazy. Russian laziness leads to creativity.
