Замбия. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (GCE) AND SCHOOL CERTIFICATE
There has been a lot of questions from our fans regarding the difference between GCE and School Certificate. GCE are initials meaning General Certificate of Education. Therefore, a General Certificate of Education (GCE) is awarded to a candidate who obtained Grade one to eight in at least one subject. This is awarded if;
(a)The candidate enters and sits but does not qualify for the School Certificate;
(b)Already holds a School Certificate or General Certificate of Education (GCE).
It should be noted that any candidate who has already attempted the examinations offered by Examinations Council of Zambia can only attempt again as an external candidate and shall always obtain a General Certificate of Education (GCE) after meeting the requirements for the award of the certificate.
On the other hand, a School Certificate is awarded to a candidate who qualify as follows:
(a) Pass in at least six subjects (including English language) with a credit in at least one of them.
(b)Pass in at least five subjects (including English language) with a credit in at least two of them.
This applies to candidates in schools who write more than six subjects and are registered as internal candidates. An internal candidate is one who has been in a regular school and has been following a prescribed form of instruction and syllabus approved by the Ministry of Education. However, it should be noted that internal candidates who fail to obtain a School Certificate are awarded the General Certificate of Education (GCE).
Please, note that the General Certificate of Education (GCE) certificates CANNOT be combined to make one Certificate or a School Certificate.
