видимо это его собеседник - topnotcher at the Bar, причем без метафоры.
т.е. он относится к сливкам в этой их коллегии адвокатов

там может подразумеваться как his (собеседника), так и mine (первого лица)
и соотв-но topnotcher at the Bar может быть как его собеседник, так и первое лицо. или они оба ;)

это я к том, что в вашем контексте очень вероятны сарказм/ирония/самоирония:
например, если мысли там они оба высказывали достаточно простые и может даже очевидные (вам виднее), то навыки красиво их обернуть и томно проговорить вслух он назвал "той самой lucidity, за которую им/нам, супер юристам, платят супер дофига".
